R the Politcos upset@ Homero? is it cuz he supports an independent..

thinking voter in South Texas Out of this belief, most Mexican Americans voted Democrat in one election after another. Posted on December 12, 2005 at 03:55:06 AM by Jaime Kenedeño It is not a criticism of Dr Hector or the significance of the Latin vote he brought to light. It is a criticism of the Two Party System in South Texas. It states, "The Two Party System does not work for us." Well, first of all a "Two Party" system in South Texas is a farce. I need not elaborate on the game of shirades of any Politico who claims Democrat in South Texas. The article speaks of the movements of the past. To me those movements were brave valiant and even good in intention but they were with an isolation to any who were not Latin. This left nobody to watch the activists back so to speak. This movement was not prepared for the backlash. Modification of JOB opportunities was an effective weapon for the established Politicos and small town "Bosses". If I may, yes there is / was Gringo Oppressors who thrived on the South Texas Mexican. There were many other Anglos who gained nothing but went with the ways of the Local Patron. Most of the kiss asses had decent JOBS and would look the other way. The ones who did stand up to the Discrimination in a small way like in a schoolhouse or in a big way like in the town square for a certain section of town or something; these guys were "marked men". The Family name was not hired, usually fired or demoted. They were blackballed. It is written, " For years when we spoke out about the injustice against our people we were told ; 'Get some representatives into the political system, let them speak for you, make your grievances known.' So we tried it. Many Mexican Americans believed that the Republican Party was the party of the rich, the big business interests, while the Democratic Party cared about the working class and the poor - the Democrats would help us. Out of this belief, most Mexican Americans voted Democrat in one election after another. But nothing ever changed. Maybe a few got JOBS as a reward for bringing in votes but that didnt help a people as a whole. They found that even when they joined the Democratic Party they were not really in it - except one day out of every four years. The rest of the time they were humiliated or ignored." It goes on to speak of various activist groups and the failure of a people to unite. The article goes on to speak of the hard work of a people to to get "their" representatives into office but once the people of Spanish sir name got in office, they began to see themselves related to the people who worked so hard and passionately to get them into office. They began to use phrases like, "Well, I have to represent all of the people" - meaning interest of the traditonal power structure. To a people who believed in them they were lost. Vendido's or sellouts as a Canales or Berlanga or Cisneros. The article writes of how a people began to dissolve within themselves referring to themselves as "RAZA" but definitively states (not meaning race but a subculture, a people who are regular folks, who spoke a similar language) Homero states, "Raza to us means someone who has suffered with us, who has lived among us,who eats at our restaurants, etc... who shared our way of life and our feelings". Who are these Spanish Sirnamed Politicos to you? Why should you vote for an Elite Mexican (as per the above definition)? I will call them Tokens. Homero says, "They have been chosen for us many a time by the Gringo Jeffes (such as the late Hayden Head Sr. in Corpus Christi). The Elite Political structure claimed to not understand the objections to the "Tokens". They preached Mexican People, the oppressed people, the poor people should be happy with these "sucdcess symbols". Some suffered as they seen their brothers or sisiters "make it" (in the Democratic Party) and then turn their backs. Homero goes on to speak of the "Tokens'" deception and insincerity. The smiles turning to a "Vote for me" twist of the mouth. They would say with a sad hollowness, "I am one of you" when everyone knew it was no longer true. These "Tokens" only represented their own interest. The little people watched as the Politicos Vendidos built their own personal kingdoms of power. The struggle of a people little and usually poor continues. from these bitter realities the people became to realize it mattered not who the elected, they all became puppets and parrots of the interest group of the party they represented. This made it clear and easy to see that the Demnocrats were no better than the stereotyped Republicans. Both are controlled by money and twisted business interests. They might act and sound different on certain issues but on important basic questions they were not. It is now a one animal system with two heads eating out of the same bowl. --------------------------------------- For the most part this is from the Hardcopy of El Defenzor. I thought important to the voices who cast rocks at Homero as they accuse him of putting down Dr Hector. With all due respect & credit to Dr Hector Garcia there were many other influences such as specifically Politiqueras (originating from the senior matriarch figure of the Family) and the Senior Matriarchs of each Family. Would they sit down one evening and she would tell them who the family was going to vote for? Pulling the Democratic Lever or simply voting a straight Democratic ticket was instilled as the means to a better life. It made the Mexican / Latino vote become important, influential and they were able to affect change with the "Palanca Democrática", Dr Hector got a people to this point. Now what Homero is saying I believe is; we all have minds of our own to make the choices (vote) on our own. Without pulling a lever. Without voting for a candidate because he is a certain party or idealogy but because of how he postures with respect to the issues we hold in priority. If he keeps his word. Homero is encouraging an independent thinking voter in South Texas. He is a percieved threat to the established political structure! Think About it!
